Full of meaning, a mourning ring holds such historic poignancy. From the reign of George IV, this noble piece is an exquisitely crafted symphony of brightness and shadow, beautifully ornamented in 18ct yellow gold with a full hallmark for 1828, complete with the monarch's head. Inside, the dedication reads; 'Mrs Ann Jacoby ob 10 Nov 1828 aet 68'.

Ann Jacoby of Chalmer's Row, Hemus Terrace, Chelsea was the widow of John Christian Jacoby Esq. who had died in 1818 aged 78. The giving of mourning rings to three individuals is amongst other legacies mentioned in her will.

Around the centre, the legend 'In Memory Of' is inscribed in a gothic font and then finely set with black enamel wherein the lettering is laid within a ribbed central panel which is further edged by a floral brocade again flanked by further a twisted row which is bordered by black enamel within a double rim. The whole is of immensely good quality with a nice substantial weight  and is in wonderful condition.

The finger size is leading edge just shy of ‘R’ (US 8 ½) centrally measures ‘P ½’ (US 7 ¾), due to its width it comfortably fits a finger size ‘O’ (US 7) and adjustment is not possible.
